The GETFUND

BACKGROUND OF GETfund
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) was established by an act of Parliament (Ghana education Trust Fund Act, 2001 Act 581) on 25th August 2001 to assist nationwide with financing of education; to provide for the management of funds and for financial related matters.The Fund is under the management of a 17 - member Board of Trustees.

Objective of the Fund
The Ghana Education Trust Fund was set up to provide finance to supplement the provision of education at all levels by the government.

Mode of Disbursement
Disbursement of monies is made through the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), the Scholarship Secretariat and and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust.

The source of moneys to the fund are as follows:
An amount of money, equivalent to two and one half percent out of the prevailing rate of the Value Added tax to be paid by the Value Added tax Service to the Fund or such percentage not being less than two and one half percent of the value added tax rate, as determined by Parliament. Such other moneys as may be allocated by Parliament for the fund

Money that accrues to the fund from investments made by Board of Trustees of the Fund

Grants, donations, gifts and other contribution to the fund.

Other moneys or property that may be in any manner become lawfully payable and vested in the Board of Trustees of the Fund.
